Opening “Autumn Meteorite,” this performance brings to life the distinct worlds of a novelist, a YouTuber, and a choreographer, colliding as reality in the plaza outside Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro.
Performing Arts Festival: Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo opens with this new outdoor performance, conceptualized by Toshiki Okada and written by Saou Ichikawa, Da Vinci Osorezan, and Natsuko Tezuka.
Ichikawa is a novelist who won the Akutagawa Prize in 2023 for Hunchback, a story about a protagonist who, like herself, has congenital myopathy, and garnered attention advocating for accessible reading during the award’s press conference. Osorezan is a writer, novelist, and YouTuber popular for his unique sense of humor and awkward behavior, always appearing with a mask in both physical and digital spaces. Finally, a choreographer active at home and abroad, Natsuko Tezuka is known for her works such as Private Trace, where she bases her choreography on obsessive observations and writings about a few seconds of footage of her home.
Three distinct worlds emerge from the three writers’ texts. The performers gathered at the venue are each assigned one, without the audience knowing who will be performing what. Through their respective interpretations of these works, the performers are choreographed by the texts. As they all dwell on their different realities—and with the audience, too, bearing witness—these multiple worlds collide together as the sun sets at Ikebukuro West Exit Park.
