A lecture introducing the origins, evolution, present landscape, and active players of object theater.

Object Theater is a rising genre of theater that initially emerged in Europe in the 1980s, but whose popularity has now spread throughout Asia and the rest of the world.
Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo commissioned Yoko Yamaguchi, a leading researcher within the field and the organizer of last year’s Shimokitazawa International Puppet Festival, to curate part of our program. In this lecture, Yamaguchi explains the origins, evolutions, and present landscape of Object Theater, and introduces the context and positionality of Hand Gote Research & Development, Xavier Bobés, Ariel Doron, and other featured artists within this genre of theater.
