Welcome Galaxy

©Takahide Mizuuchi
A place where anybody can relax and hang out arrives at the Lower Plaza of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. The borders between the world and its various “I”s incrementally transform in this social space
During the festival period of Autumn Meteorite Tokyo, “Welcome Galaxy” emerges as a place where anybody can stop by, rest, and comfortably spend their time. It is a place that is not exclusively for children, or just for adults. It is a place where the borders are transformed, little by little, between you and I, human beings and non-human somethings, and staff members and visitors. You can sigh in relief at this welcoming, hot spring-like place, which materializes around the Lower Plaza. Sometimes it changes location, sometimes it changes its shape—almost like a living being. You can drink tea, sit in a chair and rest, have a chat, or zone out and do nothing. You might encounter some information about Autumn Meteorite Tokyo, or if you feel unwell, you can also take a break. This is a place where anybody can come, anybody can stay, and anybody can be without having to be anybody at all. It doesn’t really make sense, but it feels like home. That’s the kind of place you’ll find: a multipurpose space for resting and socializing.
